Tennessee
An Expressways lab in Tennessee: reports improvement with a severely autistic boy, age 11. When originally tested he could not score at all in spelling, not able to spell one word. After less than 1.5 years in the center, he scored at grade 4.6, spelling 80 words correctly. In the pre-test he could not score in the Detroit Verbal Opposites nor the Gilmore where he could read no words. In the post-test he scored Vocabulary age of 7.0 years in the Detroit and Grade 3.5 in the Gilmore accuracy, 1.8 in comprehension. Words in isolation in the San Diego scored 3.0 and on the DST Grade 5.7. A year after beginning the program he was placed in a regular 5th grade class on a modified curriculum, leaving only for short periods.
Third-grader, Max, has a physical condition called Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum which means he is
lacking the bridge which connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain. He was in resource classes for English and Reading. In the middle of third grade, he tested beginning Grade 2 in comprehension. In less than 4 months in a TN center he tested 4.2, making 2.1 years gain in comprehension, and although not below grade level in other scores, he gained 1.9 years in spelling, 1 year in vocabulary, 1 year in reading words in isolation, and 1.3 years in reading in context. He exited the program at the end of third grade. Now in fourth grade he is no longer in resource classes and nearly made the honor roll the first quarter.
Arizona
In 86 hours in about four months in an Arizona ETL center, Peter, an eighth grader, made gains of 2.9 years in reading words in isolation, 3.2 in reading words in context, and 5.0 in comprehension.
Roy, a third grader in Arizona tested at kindergarten level before he began Expressways To Reading® early this year in a center. Now he post tested at grade 6.7!
Florida
A teacher in a private school in Florida reported that Freddy, an eleventh grader in a lab for the summer session, had pretest scores of 6th grade in math and 5th grade in reading. At the close of the summer session his scores were up 4 grade levels in reading to 9th grade level and in math they were also up 4 grade levels to l0th.
The teacher from a lab in Florida reported that a l0th grader was denied entrance to a private school when he applied in the spring because his entrance tests indicated his reading level was at 5th grade and his math at 4th grade. He enrolled for daily sessions of an hour each for both the reading and math in the Expressways To Learning® lab during the summer session. His post-test results indicated a 6-year gain in reading and 7 years in math! He tested at 11th grade in both subjects, and was admitted to the school in the fall.
A teacher in Florida wrote, "I have recently completed my second year teaching Expressways To Reading®. I am amazed at the success of my students! Each year we have shown l to 2 grade levels of average gain in spelling and vocabulary and 2 to 3 grade levels in reading accuracy and comprehension with students who were struggling readers when they entered the Expressways To Learning® lab."
Texas
From a Learning Center in Texas came the report of a third grade girl who
said, "Since I started taking this (Expressways To Reading®) I can't stop reading. I love reading." After 53 hours she made 3.5 years gain in vocabulary, 1.5 in spelling, 4.5 in words in isolation, 1.8 in reading words in context, and 4.8 in comprehension.
Tom made good progress in an ETL dyslexia lab in Texas. In the fall his isolated word score was 2.0, but by spring it was 7.0. His reading accuracy went from 3.4 to 5.2 and comprehension from 4.2 to 5.2.
California
The parent of a child in an Expressways To Learning® lab in a school in California writes "Alan was reading at approximately a second grade level when he came to the school a year ago... Now he is almost at grade level (8th grade), his self-esteem is where it should be, and he is no longer frustrated."
